Most anticipated doesn’t always mean best. That’s how this list works, I can be excited as hell for something, but it may turn out to be terrible. Some of these are serious guilty pleasures that I can’t help but want to see on the big screen. There’s one movie coming out this year that is under an insane amount of pressure and it’s the first movie on the list.
Superman: Director: James Gunn. Release Date: July 11th, 2025
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a brand new Superman, and the stakes extremely high. Enter David Corenswet and this time he’s bringing some trunks for the man of steel to wear. Coming off the impressive Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, James Gunn is now running DC over at Warner Brothers and his first directing project is tackling Superman. Mix in Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan as Lex and Lois, the trio of the main characters seem all to fitting. With an already established universe with heroes out the ass, lets see what makes this Superman so special.
There is so much riding on this movie, I can’t even fathom the amount of pressure James Gunn, DC and Warner Brothers are feeling. It’s been so long since WB got a serious win when it comes to their comic book movies, and this is launching the new DCU, with one of the biggest superheroes in the world. Not everyone loved what Zack Snyder did with his interpretation, but Henry Cavill was the man for the job, so those are big shoes to fill for David Corenswet. I can’t honestly recall the last time a movie needed to be good, open big and have people excited for what’s to come.
Mickey 17. Director: Bong Joon-ho. Release Date: March 7th, 2025
Double the amount of Pattinson? Yeah, I’m going to be there day 1. Coming off Parasite, you know that little indie movie that won a boat load of Oscars. The masterpiece, expectations could not be higher here. Pattinson himself is kind of on an all time roll, working with the best directors and being Batman, he has turned such a corner from his Twilight days, it’s incredible to see. Based on the novel, this promises to be a wacky and wild ride, with a loaded cast, and a very unique and intriguing premise. Really hope this turns out as well as I think it will.
Jurassic World Rebirth. Director: Gareth Edwards. Release Date: July 2nd, 2025.
So you’re telling me, the guy who took on Godzilla is now going to tackle a T-Rex? Say no more. We could finally be getting a proper dinosaur movie, because I haven’t liked one in a long long time. Sure, Jurassic World has its moments, but in the end it felt way to commercial and removed all the elements that made Jurassic Park so special. I can’t wait to see how Gareth Edwards a man who knows his way around size and scale and bringing monsters to life, take on the T-Rex. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali round out the cast, and if that isn’t stacked I don’t know what is. For the love of god have a rainy night time sequence with some fucking dinosaurs please.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Director: Matt Shakman. Release Date: July 25th, 2025
So the MCU is pretty much dead in the water, at least to me. But for the first time in years, a project has caught my interest. Mainly due to the awesome and likeable cast, especially Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. I feel like this movie is going to be huge in scale, and really push the MCU in the right direction. Going forward this could be the cornerstone of the MCU and where the majority of the emotional baggage will come from. There’s a chance that Pedro becomes some-what of the face of the MCU, replacing RDJ. I want this to be good so bad, I need a reason to be invested in this whole thing again.
Michael: Director: Antoine Fuqua. Release Date: October 3rd, 2025
For the way too early 2026 Oscar predictions, how about this? A movie about the King of fucking Pop, played by a family member and filled out with some of the best working actors today. Or, next year at this time we are talking about just how horribly wrong this whole thing went and what an absolute disaster this movie was. I don’t think that will be the case, the music alone is enough to sit through whatever this movie ultimately becomes. With the slew of musical biopics we have gotten in the last few years, hopefully this will reign supreme and be something special.
Mission Impossible -The Final Reckoning. Director: Christopher McQuarrie. Release Date: May 23rd, 2025
Tom Cruise and his time as Ethan Hunt is coming to an end, and frankly I don’t know how I feel about it. What a run, as one of the most beloved action stars to ever exist, upping the ante with each new movie. Going on almost 30 years, this franchise has accomplished so much. I don’t know what the future holds for it, I feel like this is finally the swan song for Tom, but these movies are too popular and make too much money not to continue. All the pieces of previous movies are coming together to guarantee us one hell of a finale.
Avatar: Fire and Ash. Director: James Cameron. Release Date: December 19th, 2025
We had to wait well over a decade, hell almost two for the follow up to Avatar and thankfully now, we only had to wait a few years for part 3. James Cameron is bringing in fire and wind into this universe, it’s going to be a sight to behold. The GOAT, James Cameron is bringing FIRE AND WIND into the Avatar universe, I needed to say it again so you fully understand just how hard this movie is going to go. These are spectacles and no one knows how to do a big blockbuster movie better than JC. The first trailer is going to hit like crack.
Wicked: For Good. Director: Jon M. Chu. Release Date: November 21st, 2025
If you asked me 6 months ago if Wicked Part 1 would have been one of my favourite movies of the year and I was chomping at the bit for the follow up. I would have laughed in your face and called you crazy. But here I am, blogging about how excited I am for the follow up to one of the most successful and fun times at the movies last year. We all get to see the conclusion of this story and that means more screen time for the terrific two leads. This is a movie so lets veer off course and have Madame Morrible rip to shreds by those flying monkeys shall we?
Mortal Kombat 2. Director: Simon McQuoid. Release Date: October 24th, 2025
Okay lets be honest here. Was the first one any good? Yes it was. Could the sequel be just so much better, hell yes. Clean up what didn’t work, make the fighting a lot better, and we could have a great sequel on our hands. The characters looked great, it felt like a Mortal Kombat movie, but it wasn’t polished enough. There is serious potential within this franchise and now adding a ton of new characters, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, this could end up being a ton of fun! This entire thing will ride on the direction of Simon McQuoid and if he has learned some lessons from the last time around, can we get a side scroll fight sequence please?
Predator: Badlands. Director: Dan Trachtenberg. Release Date: November 7th, 2025
Literally we got nothing so far, no trailer, not even a little teaser picture I can add, but that’s not stopping me from being incredibly pumped. It started with Prey, and the train just kept on chugging. Predator is totally back and everyone is super happy about it. Why not just plop the Predator down into random time periods in history and see what happens? Such a cool concept that is being executed right now. Little is known about this, but we do know it stars Elle Fanning, that’s it. But Dan Trachtenberg is back and that man knows his Predators.
